PCalc App Reviews
I’ve been using PCalc for many years and the company has provided ongoing updates without charge, so I didn’t hesitate a moment when this paid upgrade became available via the app store; it’s money well spent. PCalc has been rock solid across all the platforms I use it on: Mac, iPad, and iPhone.
This calculator app has everything and is extremely configurable. I have been using this App since it first came out (before they used the term app), and I’ve never been sorry. James Thomson is an extremely conscientious programmer and is very receptive to suggestions and bug reports. It’s nice to have the same calculator on my iPhone and Mac. FWIW, another great app by James is DragThing, which I use on a regular basis.
I have tried just about every calculator app out there. PCalc is, hands down, no contest, without a doubt the absolute best choice available! It is amazingly flexible and customizable. In the default, it has every function more than 99% of all users will ever need. The best ten bucks you’ll spend is right here! Seriously!
From adding and subtracting, to multiplying and dividing, this calculator for OSX does it all. Square roots are no problem, heck, even nth roots are no problem for this handy utility. I am especially fond of the display that makes numbers, variables, functions, and operators all visible and easy to locate to use in even the most arduous calculations. Never again will I have to count on my fingers to do the painful computations of everyday life.
Best. period.
I’ve been using Pcalc on my iPhone for a few years, and it is just the best of calculators. period.
Pcalc has been the perfect software scientific calculator for me for many years. It’s well crafted and the developer actually cares about it being usable. This latest update is no exception. Five stars all the way.
This has been my calculator of choice for years. The latest upgrade is to 4.0 is great and very polished. The developer is very attentive to any concerns that you have. A must have for anyone. Keep up the good work!
Ive used pcalc since I first got a mac many years ago. This app is always open on my desktop. I just learned of the update to pcalc-4, and bought it yesterday. It has a several new features, but the one I really like is being able to set a 2-line (or more) display, which is great for using RPN mode. But most important this is a super-stable, reliable app that has been developed over many years for the mac. Nicely customizable look/feel. Its a great scientific & hex calculator. Highly recommended!! Also, a great iOS version by the same developer, always on my home screen.
Perfect.
The best. Nuff said. ;)
The old version had the Function/Conversion/Constent icon on the PCalc display which made it very convenient. With the PCalc window small, it is very inconvenient to go up to the Apple menu bar. I will get accustomed to the new display eventually but it was nice for a while. Just a note (and must thank the PCalc people for this idea) that where it is suggested to scroll with two fingers and tap with a third, jus try a two finger press. It works for me.
Go ahead, destroy my Spreadsheetability. I’m so sick of having to do spreadsheets for what I would normally just open a calculator for, but there’s no tape. I’m not a scientist, engineer, or math student. I am however a businessman and the iOS version is the greatest thing since sliced bread! This OS X version is going to do nothing but improve my life! Yes, my life!
I have been using PCalc 3 since 2009 and immediately upgraded to v4 when I fired it up and got the notification. Its been my only calculator on my Mac for all these years - it is brilliant. Version 4 is even better. Great app and great update. Thanks! -jim
Having an easy to use and reliable calculator that can easily switch between decimal and hex has been something Ive been wanting my entire life. This is the gem I’ve been wating for.
This is everything I wanted in a calculator. This is a great app from a great developer. I bought this after having the iphone version for a while. The developer does a great job of keeping the app current without adding a bunch of useless functionality. I wish all apps were maintained this well. Highly recommend.
This is the first review I’ve ever left for any app. Finding RPN and unit conversion in one well laid out user interface seemed evasive, until I stumbled into this. Excellent execution. Very well thought out. Just begining to use, but can already tell this will be a part of my everyday moving forward...
It’s been a great application for years, and the developer continues to show his support for his customers by providing yet another great, and free, update that takes advantage of the latest iOS features. The notification center widget is a nice touch, the look of the calculator is improved (it blends nicely with Yosemite), and the interactivity between devices is tremendous. Well worth the $10.
T H E B E S T C A L C U L A T O R O F A L L T I M E P E R I O D. No joke, does everything and does it well. Long time user, have it on all Macs and iOS devices.
Although not programmable and lacks graphing capabilities, PCalc 4 for Mac in RPN mode replaces my hp calculators for many Engineering tasks. With a few adjustments, I made the Mac version look identical to my iPhone’s copy in landscape mode and this is great for having a consistent layout of buttons. I like their choice of “42” for universal constants and A>B for many conversion factors. You would be hard pressed to find an equivalent physical calculator, or a competitor’s virtual one, for the price of PCalc.
very good calculator
this works very well for all the things i used to use a standalone calculator for, very nice with the companion app on my iphone and iPad
Handoff doesn’t work
It gives the error: "Handoff couldn’t be completed because the application on your other device sent too much information."
